FAQ's

1) How many miles / kms of range autonomy will JdeMO™ add?

Answer: JdeMO™ adds about 2 miles (3 km) per minute while charging between 20% and 80% battery State Of Charge (SOC%).

A normal 30 to 45 minute charge session will add 60 miles (96 km) up to 90 miles (144 km) of range, in about the time that you will have lunch, dinner, coffee, etc.

2) How fast will the Rav4 EV® be able to charge?

Answer: It will charge at up to 386 volts DC at a maximum of 125 amps, or about 45kW. That means that it can charge from 20% to 80% of the battery usable capacity in approximately 30-45 minutes. Most CHAdeMO® compliant chargers are 100 to 125 amps "50kW".

3) What kind of chargers can I use?

Answer: You will still be able to use the existing J1772 / Type 1 plug for charging, and in addition, you will also be able to use any CHAdeMO® charge station in the world. This charger is commonly known as the unit used for the Nissan LEAF®, KIA Soul EV®, Mitsubishi iMiev® and Outlander Plug-In®.

In addition, Tesla® cars can use CHAdeMO® with a Tesla® supplied adapter.

You specifically will NOT be able to use the Tesla® Supercharger system, nor will it work at SAE-CCS-Combo1 or CCS-Combo2 chargers used by GM Spark EV®, GM Bolt EV®, Ford Focus Electric® (2017 and newer), Hyundai Ioniq®, Honda Clarity EV®, BMW i3® and Volkswagen eGolf®.

4) Where are these CHAdeMO® chargers located?

Answer: We recommend using www.PlugShare.com or www.chademo.com to find the nearest station.

5) Will JdeMO™ damage the car in any way?

Answer: No, If operating as designed. But, increasing the charge rate to any battery that has ever been designed in the history of mankind will likely shorten its lifespan.

6) Will it void my warranty?

Answer: It should not void any warranty, however we do not have control of how any auto manufacturer will likely handle a warranty claim. In all likelihood, any battery failure would likely be blamed on any product connected to the battery, no matter how unlikely it actually did damage. Therefore, each JdeMO™ sale will require a "hold harmless" agreement that indemnifies Quick Charge Power LLC from any claim.

US Federal law sets forth requirements for warranties and contains a number of provisions to prevent vehicle manufacturers, dealers and others from unjustly denying warranty coverage. With regard to aftermarket parts, the spirit of the law is that warranty coverage cannot be denied simply because such parts are present on the vehicle, or have been used. The warranty coverage can be denied only if the aftermarket part caused the malfunction or damage for which warranty coverage is sought. Disputes in this area usually boil down to arguments over facts and technical opinions, rather than arguments over interpretations of the law.

Like the Magnuson-Moss Act that protects consumers, vehicle manufacturers may not refuse warranty repairs under the US Federal Clean Air Act performance and defect warranties merely because aftermarket parts have been installed on the vehicle. The only circumstance under which the vehicle manufacturer can void the emissions warranties is if an aftermarket part is responsible for (causes) the warranty claim.

Should something go wrong, the warranty provider will need to determine the cause of the problem. The Federal Trade Commission says, “The manufacturer or dealer must show that the aftermarket or recycled part caused the need for repairs before denying warranty coverage.” That means if the dealer can prove (the burden is on the dealer) the problem was caused by the wrong viscosity or a poor quality oil filter, your warranty can be denied. Warranty protection would still be in effect for other parts of the cars.

7) Will there be a warranty on the JdeMO™?

Answer: We include a one year limited warranty for the JdeMO™ Kit and its own components. We explicitly DO NOT warranty the Toyota or Tesla components in your car.

8) Will it be possible to remove JdeMO™ on a lease return car?

Answer: Yes.

9) Do I need to remove JdeMO™ to have normal service or maintenance performed?

Answer: Absolutely not. We specifically do not want you handling, modifying, repairing or in any way changing JdeMO except to recharge your Rav4 EV® from a CHAdeMO® charger. If you need to remove JdeMO for any reason, contact QC Charge for instructions.

WARNING!: HIGH VOLTAGE CAN KILL! DO NOT TOUCH, MODIFY, HANDLE, REPAIR OR CHANGE JdeMO IN ANY WAY.

10) Can I charge with a CHAdeMO® charger and the J1772 plug at the same time?

Answer: No.

11) Can I install JdeMO™ myself?

Answer: Yes. WARNING: HIGH VOLTAGE CAN KILL. Following all directions, and just know that high voltage probably won't shock you... because it will kill you, and it will hurt the entire time you are dying. But, any qualified mechanic or methodical weekend car hobbyist should have no problem with the installation, provided all the safety instructions are followed.

12) Can my local Toyota dealer install JdeMO™?

Answer: Yes, a properly trained Prius or EV trained technician COULD install this kit. But, don't expect most Toyota dealers to want to do this. Actually, that number is probably close to ZERO.

13) How long will it take to install?

Answer: About 4 hours for us at our shop in Vista, California, or a weekend for a auto hobbyist.

14) Will JdeMO™ be able to power my house through the CHAdeMO® plug?

Answer: Maybe, however, we have not developed any method to do that.

15) I have heard that CHAdeMO® is capable of 100kW up to 400kW. Will JdeMO be able to charge at that rate?

Answer: No, because in order to get the full speed would first require a 500 to 1000 volt battery. Like most modern electric vehicles, the Rav4 EV uses a "400 volt" battery (386 volts max).

The maximum possible charge rate might be up to 200 amps (about 70kW) for a short period of time at the lowest battery State Of Charge % (SOC%). Currently, JdeMO™ is restricted to 125 amps / 45kW.

16) Where is JdeMO be mounted?

Answer: It fits entirely under the hood. To charge, you will open the hood and plug in the CHAdeMO® plug.

17) Can I move the inlet?

Answer: You can move it ANY place you like. All you need is a LOT of time, money, plus however many feet of heavy gauge copper wires, plus some 18 AWG wire. We will not be involved in alternate locations, sorry.

Should have been standard equipment!

"Toyota really should have included some quickcharge capability with the RAV4 EV. Since they didn't, JdeMO is the ONLY option RAV4 EV owners have for any kind of quickcharging. Since having mine installed nearly 2 years ago, my RAV4 EV is a completely different class of vehicle. Long range trips I wouldn't even consider taking are now possible. Even local commuting has improved by opening up my EV to charge at the thousands of CHADEMO stations in the LA area. If you're a RAV4 EV owner, you owe it to yourself to get a JdeMO installed today."
